Privacy policy
Ottry is a private video-calling app for one family. This page explains what personal data it uses, why, and what your rights are. We keep it short because the app does very little.
Who is responsible
Ottry is a private family project. You can contact us at support@ottry.app.
What the app uses
- Names and sign-in: each family member has a display name (for example "Mamma") and a personal access code set by the person who runs the service. The code is used only to sign in.
- Notification tokens: to ring your phone or tablet when someone calls, the service stores a technical token for each of your devices and whether it is an iPhone or an Android device.
- Presence: whether the app is open or reachable, and when it was last seen, so the buttons can show who can be called.
- Call records: for a missed call or an unanswered "Can you talk?" message, the service keeps who called and when. Only the latest five per person are kept.
- Tablet status: the kitchen tablet reports whether it is online and its battery level, so the family can be warned if it goes offline or runs low.
- Notification log: a short technical log of notification delivery (which device, whether Apple or Google accepted it) that helps us find why a phone did not ring.
- Camera and microphone: used only during a call and only after you allow them. Audio and video go straight to the other people in the call.
What we do not do
- We do not record calls and we do not store call audio or video.
- We do not show ads, use analytics or tracking tools, or sell or share your data for marketing.
- We do not ask for your location, contacts, photos or health data.
Who else handles data
- Call routing: LiveKit Cloud (EU region) carries the live audio and video between the people on a call.
- Hosting: the Ottry server runs on Render in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Notifications: Apple (push notifications) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) deliver the messages that make a phone ring. They receive the notification content and the device token.
- Alerts to the family organiser: if enabled, alerts such as "tablet offline" can also be sent through a notification service chosen by the organiser.
Why and on what basis
We use this data only to run the calling service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR) and to keep it reliable and secure (Article 6(1)(f)).
How long we keep it
Notification tokens are kept until a device signs out or is removed. Missed-call records are limited to the latest five per person. The notification log is short and technical and is cleared as it fills. Nothing else is kept after a call ends.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its use, or to move it elsewhere. Signing out removes your device's notification token. To use any other right, write to support@ottry.app. You can also complain to your national data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
Children
Ottry is not made for children and does not knowingly collect data from them. Accounts are created by the family organiser.
